This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work
This role supports the operation, maintenance, and repair of air‑conditioning and refrigeration systems by applying working knowledge of refrigeration theory, building automation systems, direct digital controls, and related electrical and pneumatic components. The position troubleshoots equipment performance issues, identifies effective repair methods, and uses appropriate tools and materials to restore system functionality within established operational guidelines.Key Duties Include:
•Diagnose malfunctions in air conditioning, refrigeration, and control systems to determine appropriate repair actions
•Troubleshoot and repair direct digital control components and building automation system functions
•Perform maintenance and repair on centrifugal and reciprocating compressors
•Inspect, adjust, and maintain pneumatic control systems
•Apply electrical knowledge to resolve issues in complex control circuits
•Select and use tools, materials, and equipment appropriate for system repair and maintenance
•Verify proper operation of HVAC and refrigeration systems following repair or adjustment

Salary Range $39,244 - $68,679

Documented experience in HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Systems.
Documented knowledge in reading blueprints, schematic and wiring diagrams.

Salary Range $43,267 - $75,718
Salary Grade NC 10

Raleigh Regional Maintenance Yard, Raleigh, NC
Costal Regional Maintenance Yard, Greenville, NC
Piedmont Regional Maintenance Yard, Asheboro, NC
Mountain Regional Maintenance Yard, Lenoir, NC
DECM Construction Operations, Based out of Raleigh, NC but travels throughout State

Veterans’ and National Guard Preference

HVAC Mechanic I
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience
Necessary Special Qualifications
Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
HVAC Mechanic II
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems including one year at the journey level
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience
Necessary Special Qualifications
Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
