Paraprofessional Educator

Visitation Catholic School is seeking two paraprofessional educators for the inclusive education program. Paras will work one-to-one with students who have special physical or educational needs. The ideal applicant is fulfilled by working with children and making a difference as part of a team.

Responsibilities

· Implement activities planned by classroom teacher or inclusive education coordinator.

· Bridge communication between classroom teacher and student’s parents.

· Based on child’s SEP (Student Education Plan) and teacher directives, implement modified curriculum activities to meet individual learning goals.

· Work with student individually, following him/her through the daily schedule.

· Provide for student’s social and emotional needs through respite activities and “brain breaks.”

· Advocate for the student with the inclusive education coordinator when the student’s program is not meeting her/his needs.

· Maintain records of all activities planned and completed.

· Provide daily records to inclusive education coordinator.

· Assist student with snacks and lunch as needed.

· Assist student with toileting as needed.

· Attend and participate in professional learning activities as assigned.

· Complete other assigned tasks.

· High school diploma

· Some post-secondary education preferred

· Patience, flexibility, positive attitude
