Electrical Mechanic - DOTMilwaukee County DOT- Highway Maintenance DepartmentHourly Pay Rate: $46.50
Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Milwaukee County Highway Maintenance Trades Supervisor, the Electrical Mechanic (DOT) is responsible for maintaining, constructing, and repairing electrical systems integral to Milwaukee County’s highway operations. This position demands proficiency in troubleshooting intricate electrical circuits, operating specialized equipment, and adhering to safety protocols while working in challenging environments—including extreme heights, confined spaces, all weather, alongside of moving traffic on Interstate, State, and County roadways.
Essential Responsibilities:
Install, maintain, and repair electrical power, transmission, lighting, communication signal, alarm systems, traffic signals, instruments, apparatus, and associated equipment.
Execute circuit repairs, terminate and splice high voltage cables, resolve circuit issues, and install motors, motor starting switches, and remote equipment.
Maintain, repair, and install electrical cabinets with emphasis on troubleshooting motor controls and automated sequence controls.
Interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, specifications, and diagrams.
Utilize tools specific to the electrical trade for component construction and repair.
Operate CDL-rated power lift boom trucks safely at elevated heights and in confined spaces.
Comply with local and national codes as well as established safety standards.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a current resident of Wisconsin.
Possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License; Class B CDL without air brake restriction required within six months of appointment and maintained thereafter.
Hold a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Possess a valid State of Wisconsin Master Electrician OR Journeyman Electrician License.
Must have five (5) years of experience as a journeyman electrician OR have a State of Wis. M.E. (Master Electrician) License with one (1) year of electrical experience
Demonstrate intermediate proficiency with relevant computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
Basic familiarity with mapping software including Google Maps and GIS.
Ability to be on call and work flexible schedules.
Capability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 60 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Wisconsin Master Electrician License
Class B CDL without airbrake restriction
NOTE: This original application is open to permanent residents of the state of Wisconsin at the time of application. In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
