Job Description

The Director of Curriculum and Assessment provides strategic leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum and comprehensive assessment system for students in South Holland School District 151. This role ensures equitable instructional practices and monitors student achievement to support continuous improvement across all schools. Significant time is required for analyzing data, planning activities, monitoring programs/services, responding to others and consulting with program personnel.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree in Curriculum and/or Teaching and Learning or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • State of Illinois Educator's License with administrative endorsement/qualification
  • Five (5) or more years of experience as an educator in a public school district required. Previous experience as a director or coordinator of curriculum strongly preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with diverse individuals and groups including parents, teachers, administrators and the community
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of classroom instruction is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to take the initiative, work independently, meet deadlines, follow complex directions and adapt to changing demands, activities and work loads
  • Evidence of dependability, integrity and a strong work ethic
  • Valid Illinois or Indiana driver's license with no major violations
  • Acceptable results from background checks and TB test

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observation of all Board policies and State and Federal regulations.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of district-wide curriculum aligned to state standards.
  • Ensure curriculum coherence, vertical alignment, and culturally responsive practices.
  • Facilitate curriculum review cycles and adoption processes.
  • Participates in a variety of planning and development activities, including districtwide committees, for the purpose of creating short and long-range plans.
  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive district assessment plan, including benchmark, formative, and summative assessments.
  • Analyze student performance data and communicate trends to stakeholders.
  • Guide schools in using data to drive instructional decision-making.
  • Develops, manages, and evaluates the curriculum budget in consultation with the Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. staff, administrators, school personnel, outside vendors and service providers, etc.) for the purpose of providing technical support.
  • Support implementation of MTSS/RTI frameworks.
  • Consults with administrators, teachers and staff to define training needs.
  • Promote equitable access to high-quality instruction for all student groups.
  • Support initiatives that address achievement gaps.
  • Ensure instructional materials reflect diverse perspectives and experiences.
  • Assists in recruiting, screening, and hiring District certified educators.
  • Provides input to principals on special education staff evaluations.
  • Maintains open lines of communication among parents, staff, students, and administration.
  • Serves as a member of the Superintendent's cabinet.  Attends regular Board of Education meetings.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Requires prolonged sitting and standing.
  • Requires stooping, bending, reaching and lifting.
  • Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials.
  • Must work in stressful and hectic environments.
  • Requires the ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • May require some travel and evening and/or weekend work.

 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
At-will employment.  Twelve months a year, with vacation days and holidays per district policy.  Salary commensurate with skills and qualifications. Anticipated salary range: $90,000 - $98,000.
 
EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent.
