Job Description
Job Title: Aide, Autism Classroom
Reports To: Principal/Program Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Summary: Performs any combination of following instructional tasks in classroom to assist teaching staff of public or private elementary or secondary school by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. As directed by the teacher, assist in the instruction and supervision of students with disabilities by:
- Reviewing and becoming familiar with student IEP's.
- Preparing and/or organizing instructional materials and lessons.
- Instructing children using appropriate methods and materials.
- Correcting student assignments, tests, and homework.
- Maintaining appropriate records.
- In any instructional setting (regular classroom, special education classroom, lunchroom, playground, recreational/physical education activities, field trips and hallways) during the school day.
- Behavioral management of children using the appropriate methods and techniques, including therapeutic invention which could require one and two person holds.
- With proper training, assist students with person health needs and non-medical procedures.
- Position and/or perform one-person or two-person lift of a child when needed.
- May be an attendant on the van AM or PM several days per week.

Qualifications:

Education, Experience & Certification:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must obtain and maintain an Ohio Department of Education Educational Aide Permit.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and Spreadsheet software.

Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands: The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision and Peripheral vision. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
