
Vehicle Technician
Job Description
Education/Certification Required:
- High School Graduate or GED
- CDL with Passenger, School Bus and Air brake endorsements must be obtained within 90 days after hire
- Acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
- Possess and maintains Texas School Bus Driver certification as mandated by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
Technology Proficiency: Level 2 – Applied (use of)
- Computer operations
- Software productivity tools (i.e., Microsoft Office)
- E-mail
- Printers
- Job-relate financial systems
- Multimedia tools
- Applied use of electronic file management
Experience Required:
- Three years of documented successful experience in vehicle maintenance, school bus preferred
Personal Required:
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Ability to follow prescribed procedures and policies.
- Ability to operate a computer system for job assignment and posting work accomplished.
- Ability to operate and interpret vehicle computer diagnostic equipment for a variety of vehicles, engines and transmissions.
- Ability to pay attention to detail and strive for perfection.
- Ability to drive a large variety of light to heavy vehicles and equipment.
- Must be able to read and interpret technical information and apply as required.
- Reports directly to the Shift Supervisor.
- Ability to pass annual DOT physical with alcohol and drug screen.
- Knowledge of diesel engine maintenance and repair, school bus preferred.
Function
Performs all technician duties necessary to assure reliable and safe vehicles for the Office of Transportation and other agencies within CCISD.

Reponsibilities:
- Maintain required equipment, tools, and other related items and ensure accountability, serviceable and operational status.
- Ability to trouble shoot a wide variety of mechanical problems associated with a wide variety of vehicles and engines.
- Ability to repair a wide variety of vehicles in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
- Ability to perform preventable maintenance functions and recognize short comings.
- Ability to maintain a clean, safe working area and practice safe operating procedures.
- Assists in the development of standard Operating Policies and Procedures, especially in the area of maintenance, vehicle maintenance, and small equipment and engines.
- Advises the Shift Supervisor or Shop Foreman on all matters pertaining to vehicle maintenance or safety hazards.
- Responsible for the accurate and up to date inventory of issued tools.
- Ensures maintenance records are accurate on all equipment, vehicles and small engines on which work has been performed.
- Ability to acquire and maintain required certification (ASE) status and CDL credentials.
- Ability to acquire and maintain required certification for State of Texas and DOT inspection licenses.
- Ability to drive school bus routes as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor, Shop Foreman, Administrative Officer or Director.

- Challenging situations; limited in-District travel; light lifting, fluctuating temperatures
