Description: ESY Paraprofessional
Extended School year is for students in grades PK- Transition (18-21yrs.) who qualify for ESY services per their IEP's. The goal of the program is to prevent regression of learned skills during the Summer months. ESY will be located at both Bea Underwood Elementary School and the Center for Family Learning during the Weeks of June 15 & 22 and July 13 & 20 - (Tuesday-Thursday)

The primary function of the ESY paraprofessional is to assist the ESY teacher in the implementation of ESY related IEP goals, objectives, and accommodations for students who participate in ESY services, per IEP's. ESY paraprofessionals work under the direction of the teacher and IEP service providers to support students throughout their school day, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. The ESY Paraprofessional answers directly to the ESY Teacher and the ESY Site Supervisor.
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Support ESY teacher in the implementation and collection of data according to the students Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
• Support ESY teacher in providing specially designed instruction in accordance with students' IEP goals, and monitor progress with ongoing data collection.
• Work cooperatively with ESY and Summer school staff
• Support ESY teacher in identifying individual student learning needs and developing strategies to address those needs. This will be demonstrated through knowledge of students and demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness.
• Support the ESY teacher in providing clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum through knowledge of content and pedagogy, setting instructional outcomes, knowledge of resources and designing coherent instruction.

• Support the ESY teacher in fostering and managing a safe, positive learning environment through creating an environment of respect and rapport, managing classroom procedures, student behavior and organizing a safe physical space for student learning.

   

Qualifications:
 

• Must demonstrate responsibility and dependability
• High school diploma or GED required
• Proven experience working with students
• Effective communication skills; oral, written, and visual with adults and children
• Understanding of basic principles of early childhood development
• Preference given to individuals who have taken classes in education and/or successfully demonstrated their ability to work with young children
  
  Physical Demands:
• Ability to work in classroom and school environment for extended periods of time including, but not limited to, sitting, standing lifting, bending and reaching
• Lift 30-50Ibs
