Reports to: Campus Principal
Position Overview
Greenville ISD is seeking a skilled and student-centered Behavior Intervention Specialist to support students with behavioral needs across campuses. This position works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and support staff to implement behavior interventions that promote student success and a positive learning environment.
Primary Purpose
Provide expertise in behavior management and intervention strategies to support students with behavioral challenges, ensuring implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and compliance with Texas Education Agency (TEA) and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requirements.
Qualifications
Education / Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required
- Valid Texas teaching certificate or related certification preferred
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or similar training preferred (or ability to obtain)
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies and positive behavior supports (PBIS)
- Knowledge of functional behavior assessments (FBA) and behavior intervention plans (BIP)
- Ability to work effectively with students exhibiting challenging behaviors
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to train and support staff in behavior management techniques
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Experience:
- Experience working with at-risk students or students with behavioral needs preferred
- Experience in special education or behavior intervention settings preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Behavior Support & Intervention
- Implement and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for assigned students
- Assist in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)
- Provide direct support to students exhibiting behavioral challenges
- Support de-escalation and crisis intervention as needed
Staff Support & Training
- Provide guidance and training to teachers and staff on behavior strategies and classroom management
- Model effective behavior intervention techniques
- Collaborate with campus teams to develop and implement behavior supports
Student & Program Support
- Support students in developing self-regulation, social skills, and positive behaviors
- Assist with maintaining structured and supportive learning environments
- Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and student support teams as needed
Data Collection & Documentation
- Collect and analyze behavior data to monitor student progress
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
- Provide reports and recommendations to campus and district staff
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in professional development and required trainings
- Support campus and district initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Physical Demands:
- Frequent standing, walking, and assisting students
- May require physical intervention consistent with district training
Environmental Factors:
- Work in a structured classroom or campus environment
- Exposure to students with behavioral challenges
Mental Demands:
- Ability to maintain emotional control in high-stress situations
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively to behavioral needs
