High School Equivalency Instructor and Advisor (10-months, plus additional summer days)

PAY SCALE: $47,093 - $59,680 per year, based on education and experience

SCHEDULE: Full-time, 10 months, plus additional summer days

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Seeking an instructor to advise, assess, and teach diverse groups of High School Equivalency (HSE) learners. Daytime and evening availability is preferred.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

TYPICAL INSTRUCTOR DUTIES:

• Design and implement an instructional program that supports each student's academic growth and meets their individual needs as they work toward earning a high school equivalency diploma.
• Plan and deliver differentiated High School Equivalency instruction for high-school and out-of-school youth and young adults (ages 16�20) by designing and executing lessons in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and career exploration, incorporating instructional technology and literacy strategies to meet a wide range of academic readiness levels.
• Review and support IEP, 504, and other individual student needs.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with students by fostering a supportive classroom community, guiding positive peer interactions, and providing day-to-day mentoring.
• Evaluate student learning through formal and informal assessment practices, including state-required assessments for diagnostic and progress monitoring.
• Leverage instructional technology to provide individualized education, personalize learning experiences, and help meet diverse needs.
• Perform all classroom clerical duties such as maintenance of cumulative folders and attendance records and completion of all forms as directed by NYSED.
• Work with support staff in meeting the instructional and workforce expectations for each student enrolled in the program and to remain within the standards of the New York State Education Department.

TYPICAL ADVISOR DUTIES:

• Conduct intake and initial assessments for prospective students and families, including evening sessions when needed, and ensure all program-required testing is completed, accurately recorded, and communicated to stakeholders in a timely manner.
• Register incoming students for a GED account, schedule testing dates, ensure students have proper ID and documentation, and submit GED accommodation requests.
• Track and report academic performance, attendance, and diagnostic assessment results to administration and families; provide ongoing guidance around motivation, personal barriers, and goals while following up with disengaged students.

OTHER:

• Maintains all safety standards as mandated by the BOCES 2 organization
• Other duties as determined by the Director of BOCES 2 CWD
• Attend 14 hours of NYSED approved professional development per year
• Report directly to the Director of BOCES 2 CWD
• Classes will be held at CWD WEMOCO Campus, 3589 Big Ridge Road, Spencerport NY 14559

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• NYS Secondary Certification 7-12 (ELA or Math preferred)
• 3-5 years of teaching experience
• Proficient with professional soft skills, ability to communicate clearly with diverse populations, work independently, and as a team member.
• Excellent instructional and interpersonal skills 

 Preferred

• Additional NYS Certification in Special Education
• Experience or knowledge of high school equivalency instruction and/or testing (GED)
