Job Description
DESCRIPTION: Assist Bus Driver by providing direct care of student passengers who may be unable to care for themselves due to their age and/or disabilities and thereby ensuring a safe, comfortable environment for all passengers; by providing direct supervision and immediate care of student passengers during loading/unloading procedures and while in route; and by assisting with documentation, communications, and other duties relating to the safety and welfare of students.
SALARY: Classified starting at Grade I, $19.05 per hour to start, depending on recent experience. 7.5 hours per day on the 4-day/9-month work schedule, paid over 12 months. Position is eligible for benefits.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide care and assistance to passengers to and from the bus, while crossing streets, and during transportation.
- Assist Bus Driver with pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the safe operations of the vehicle and equipment.
- Physically check bus after each stop to ensure that no student is left behind or has left his/her belongings in the bus.
- Assist students having special needs with adaptive equipment and/or monitoring students who may have other medical, physical, emotional, or behavioral needs.
- Provide structure and coaching to refocus students behaving inappropriately.
- Communicate with parents and teachers regarding students needs and/or behaviors.
- Assist Bus Driver and Substitute Drivers with route sheets and emergency information packets.
- Assist Bus Driver and maintain required paperwork, emergency information, and documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2 years of high school, vocational school, or equivalent on the job training and experience preferred.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Must be able to pass a post offer, pre-employment physical.
- Must be able to pass a Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- No experience required.
- Experience working with children preferred.
- Ability to work with students and students with special needs.
- Ability to follow directions, appropriately manage student behavior, and make quick decisions in emergency situations.
- Operating knowledge of wheelchair lifts, tie downs, and other adaptive equipment required within 90 days after hire.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred at time of hire or able to obtain within 90 days of hire.
