
High School STEM P-Tech Counselor
Job Description
Primary Purpose:
Provide a comprehensive counseling program that supports students in the P-TECH pathway (grades 9�12) to successfully complete high school, earn an associate degree, and achieve college, career, and workforce readiness in STEM-related fields. The counselor will integrate academic planning, social-emotional support, and workforce pathway guidance aligned with Texas Education Agency P-TECH Blueprint requirements.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Academic Advising & Planning
- Develop and monitor individual graduation and degree plans for all P-TECH students
- Ensure alignment of high school coursework with college course requirements
- Track student progress toward diploma, associate degree, and industry certifications
- Monitor TSI readiness and dual credit eligibility
2. College Readiness & Postsecondary Planning
- Guide students through:
- College enrollment processes
- FAFSA/TASFA completion
- Scholarship opportunities
- Coordinate with college partners to ensure successful dual credit participation
- Promote a college-going culture with a focus on STEM pathways
3. Career & Workforce Development
- Collaborate with industry partners to coordinate:
- Internships
- Job shadowing
- Mentorship opportunities
- Support students in exploring STEM careers aligned to their program of study
- Assist students in obtaining industry-based certifications
4. Social-Emotional Support
- Provide individual and group counseling to address academic, behavioral, and emotional needs
- Support students managing the rigor of dual enrollment and college expectations
- Implement intervention strategies for at-risk students
5. Data Monitoring & Program Accountability
- Track and analyze student data including:
- Attendance
- Academic performance
- College credit accumulation
- Degree completion progress
- Support campus and district reporting requirements related to CCMR indicators
- Ensure program compliance with P-TECH standards and guidelines
6. Family & Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and program expectations
- Provide informational sessions on P-TECH pathways, college requirements, and timelines
- Serve as liaison between:
- High school staff
- College partners
- Industry representatives
7. Program Support & Leadership
- Participate in P-TECH program planning and continuous improvement efforts
- Collaborate with campus leadership, CTE staff, and college partners
- Assist with recruitment, selection, and onboarding of P-TECH students
Supervisory Responsibilities
None
Working Conditions
- Frequent interaction with students, parents, staff, and external partners
- Occasional evening events (parent meetings, college events)
- Moderate travel for college and industry partner meetings
*Salary is commensurate with experience
*Minimum Salary $74,824
*Remote work is not available for this role.
