
Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Teacher 2026-2027 School Year
Job Description
Primary Purpose
Provide students with learning experiences in Family and Consumer Sciences that prepare them for real-world responsibilities, career pathways, and life skills such as nutrition, child development, personal finance, and career readiness, aligned with state standards.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Family & Consumer Sciences, Human Services, Hospitality, or appropriate CTE certification
Experience:
- Student teaching, internship, or related work experience in a CTE field preferred
- Industry experience in areas such as culinary arts, education, or human services preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with Texas Education Agency TEKS for Family & Consumer Sciences
- Teach courses such as Principles of Human Services, Child Development, Culinary Arts, or Hospitality (based on campus needs)
- Use hands-on, project-based instruction to enhance student engagement
- Integrate real-world applications, career readiness, and industry standards into instruction
Classroom & Lab Management
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom/lab environment (kitchen, childcare lab, etc.)
- Ensure proper use and care of equipment, tools, and materials
- Enforce safety and sanitation standards at all times
Assessment & Data
- Develop and administer assessments aligned to course objectives
- Monitor and analyze student progress to guide instruction
- Prepare students for industry-based certifications where applicable
Student Support
- Provide academic support, tutoring, and enrichment opportunities
- Guide students in career pathways related to human services, culinary arts, and family sciences
- Support participation in CTE student organizations (e.g., FCCLA)
Professional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with CTE staff and participate in PLCs
- Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development
- Maintain accurate records including grades, attendance, and inventory of supplies
- Comply with district, campus, and state policies
Working Conditions
- Combination of classroom and lab environment
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and use of kitchen or lab equipment
- May require after-school events, competitions, or student organization sponsorship

- Demonstrate student growth and engagement in CTE pathways
- Maintain a safe and effective learning environment
- Promote career readiness and life skills development
Additional Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration.
*Salary is commensurate with experience
*Minimum Salary $66,000 for fully certified teachers
*Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
*Works 187 Day Calendar
