Job Description

This posting is for the 2026-2027 School Year

Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in science (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science) designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop scientific knowledge, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving abilities aligned with state standards (TEKS).

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate in appropriate science content area (e.g., Composite Science 7�12, Biology 7�12, Chemistry 7�12, Physics 7�12)

Experience

  • Student teaching, internship, or classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Experience working with diverse student populations

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Strategies

  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned to TEKS and district curriculum
  • Deliver engaging, rigorous instruction using a variety of instructional strategies
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners (including SPED, 504, ELs)
  • Use lab-based and inquiry-driven instruction to promote scientific investigation
  • Integrate technology and real-world applications into lessons

Classroom Management

  • Establish and maintain a positive, structured learning environment
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with district policies and student code of conduct
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed during laboratory activities

Assessment & Data Use

  • Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments
  • Analyze student data to inform instruction and intervention
  • Provide timely feedback to students and parents

Communication

  • Maintain open communication with students, parents, and staff
  • Participate in parent conferences and ARD/504 meetings as required
  • Collaborate with colleagues in PLCs and department meetings

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in professional development and district training
  • Maintain accurate records (grades, attendance, lesson plans)
  • Comply with all district, state, and federal policies

Working Conditions

  • Ability to manage a classroom environment
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 25 lbs)
  • Exposure to laboratory materials and equipment

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong content knowledge in assigned science subject(s)
  • Knowledge of TEKS and high school graduation requirements
  • Effective classroom management and organizational skills
  • Ability to use instructional technology and data systems

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policies (T-TESS)

*Salary is commensurate with experience
*Minimum Salary $66,000 for fully certified teachers
*Works 187-day Contract
* Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
