
Special Education Co-Teacher
Job Description
Primary Purpose
Provide direct instructional support to students with disabilities in a general education classroom through a co-teaching model. Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure access to grade-level curriculum while implementing individualized supports aligned with each student's IEP.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education (EC�12 or appropriate grade level)
- ESL certification (preferred, depending on campus population)
Experience
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an inclusive setting preferred
- Knowledge of co-teaching models and differentiated instruction
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instruction & Co-Teaching
- Implement effective co-teaching models (e.g., parallel teaching, station teaching, team teaching)
- Collaborate with general education teacher to deliver standards-based instruction
- Modify and adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning needs
- Provide small group and individualized instruction within the classroom
IEP Implementation & Compliance
- Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in student IEPs
- Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and objectives
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with district and state guidelines
- Support ARD/IEP meetings by providing input on student performance
Collaboration
- Plan lessons jointly with general education teachers
- Communicate regularly with parents, administrators, and support staff
- Work with related service providers (speech, OT, etc.) to support student needs
Classroom Support & Behavior
- Support implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
- Maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
- Use proactive classroom management strategies
Assessment & Data
- Assist in administering assessments (formal and informal)
- Analyze student data to inform instruction and interventions
- Track and report student progress
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain documentation in systems such as IEP platforms (e.g., Embrace or equivalent)
- Ensure services provided are documented accurately (critical for audits/monitoring)
- Follow all federal, state, and district special education policies
Supervisory Responsibilities
- May assist in supervising paraprofessionals or instructional aides assigned to the classroom
Working Conditions
- Regular classroom environment
- May include lifting, positioning, or assisting students with physical needs
- Frequent standing, walking, and classroom mobility
*Salary is commensurate with experience
*Minimum Salary $66,000 for fully certified teachers
*Works 187-day Contract
* Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
