TITLE: Transportation Safety Assistant (TSA)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have completed/passed the school bus written CDL tests, have a DOT physical, and a CDL permit as a minimum.
- Some experience working with students is desired.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor
JOB GOAL: The TSA monitors student behavior and attends to the special needs of exceptional students while they are using school buses. The employee receives detailed instruction of the duties and responsibilities of this work. Independent judgment is exercised in emergencies by selecting the action to take from those that have been planned by a higher authority. The employee serves under the direct supervision of the Transportation district supervisor and the school principal. The TSA requires students to conform to the rules and regulations established by the local board of education for the safety of students riding school buses.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow all rules, policies, and procedures, along with regulations pertaining to the Transportation Department.
- Maintain order on the bus, and report discipline problems to the proper staff.
- Make certain that students are seated while the bus is in motion.
- Supervise the loading and unloading of the bus.
- Help students cross highways safely when needed.
- Assist students and drivers as needed.
- Assist in keeping discipline on the bus.
- Assure that seat belts and other safety restraining devices are used, and that they are securely fastened.
- Assist the driver with all turnarounds.
- Perform other related duties as directed by the Supervisor/Coordinator.
Terms of Employment: Temporary/At Will/FLSA Non-Exempt
Starting Salary and/or Grade: Grade: TSA ($15.00/HR)
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.

- Ability to deal patiently and effectively with students.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with school principals and parents.

- Ability to exit out of the rear bus door or side door as needed for evacuation.
- Ability to sit, walk, or stand; to bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing duties.
- Vision abilities of close vision, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
- Willingness to work in varying and adverse conditions.
- Ability to follow basic verbal and written instructions.
