Middle School Volleyball Coach

At Catlin Gabel School in Portland, Oregon, we believe athletics are an important part of a student’s growth, confidence, and sense of belonging. We are seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered Middle School Volleyball Coach to lead and support our volleyball program during the Fall 2026 season.
This role is ideal for a coach who enjoys working with middle school student-athletes and is passionate about skill development, teamwork, and creating a positive athletic experience. We are looking for someone who can foster a supportive and inclusive environment while helping students build both volleyball fundamentals and character.
As a member of the athletics community, you will collaborate closely with the Athletic Department and school staff to support a program that reflects the mission and values of the school.
What You’ll Do
- Plan and lead engaging, developmentally appropriate volleyball practices
- Coach and supervise student-athletes during games and team events
- Foster a positive team culture centered on sportsmanship, growth, inclusion, and teamwork
- Support the skill development and confidence of middle school athletes
- Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and the athletic department
- Assist with equipment organization, uniform distribution, and program logistics
- Support the safe and effective use of athletic facilities and equipment
- Travel to games and events throughout the Portland metro area
Qualifications
- Previous volleyball coaching and/or competitive playing experience preferred
- Experience working with middle school-aged students strongly preferred
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Enthusiasm for mentoring and supporting student-athletes
- Commitment to creating an inclusive and positive team environment
- NFHS/OSAA coaching certifications (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Current First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Reliable transportation to attend practices and athletic events throughout the Portland metro area
