About Catlin Gabel School

At Catlin Gabel School in Portland, Oregon, we believe athletics are an essential part of a student’s education and personal growth. We are seeking a passionate, collaborative, and student-centered Assistant Coach to join our Varsity Volleyball program for the Fall 2026 season starting late Summer 2026.


This is an exciting opportunity for a coach who is committed to developing competitive athletes while also fostering confidence, leadership, sportsmanship, and a strong team culture. We are looking for someone who brings positive energy, strong volleyball knowledge, and a genuine enthusiasm for mentoring high school student-athletes.


As a member of the coaching staff, you will work closely with the Head Coach and Athletic Department to support a program that values excellence, inclusivity, and whole-student development both on and off the court.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the planning and execution of engaging, competitive, and developmentally appropriate practices
  • Assist with coaching during varsity matches, tournaments, and team events
  • Help cultivate a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture
  • Mentor and support student-athletes in skill development, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship
  • Collaborate with the Head Coach, athletic department, and school community to uphold program expectations and school values
  • Assist with team communication, equipment organization, and uniform management
  • Support the safe and effective use of athletic facilities and equipment
  • Travel to games and events throughout the Portland metro area


Qualifications

  • Previous volleyball coaching and/or competitive playing experience required
  • High school, club, collegiate, or youth coaching experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to positively connect with and motivate student-athletes
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and respectful team environment
  • NFHS/OSAA coaching certifications (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Reliable transportation to attend practices and athletic events throughout the Portland metro area


Additional Information

  • Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled
  • Stipend is competitive and based on experience
  • This is a seasonal position for Fall 2026 with a start date of late Summer 2026
