
Italian Teacher - Long-Term sub for LOA
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Instruct students in Italian language and culture; help students develop proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Italian while broadening their understanding of global perspectives. Create an engaging and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, creativity, and growth. Collaborate with colleagues to support student learning and achievement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Danbury Board of Education
- Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines
- Manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment
- Prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners
- Demonstrate strong content knowledge in Italian language and Italian cultures
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required
- Conduct parent/teacher conferences
- Assess student learning on a continual basis and identify areas for intervention if needed
- Keep parents informed of student progress through interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students
- Design and implement assessments to measure progress and use data to improve instructional practices
- Maintain a positive learning environment that fosters open communication
- Encourage ethical student behavior and positive citizenship
- Participate in the selection of textbooks and instructional materials
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with staff, students, and families
- Engage in ongoing professional learning through seminars, workshops, and collaboration
- Demonstrate effective teaching methods appropriate for secondary world language instruction
- Experience working with adolescent learners in a diverse school setting
- Ability to foster a student-centered, culturally responsive learning environment
- Clear and effective oral and written communication skills
- Active listening and collaboration skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Prior teaching experience preferred
- Active 020 World Language – Italian Certification issued by the Connecticut State Department of Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or Italian (Master’s preferred)
- Demonstrated success in a multicultural or urban educational setting
- Experience with team teaching and collaboration
- Strong interpersonal and classroom management skills
