JOB TITLE: LEAD SCHOOL SAFETY SPECIALIST
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The Lead School Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the safety and security of school campuses and district facilities through a combination of on-site operational support and district-wide security systems management. Ensures the effective operation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of electronic security infrastructure, including access control systems, video surveillance, alarm systems, and identification/badging platforms. Supports the implementation of safety procedures, emergency response efforts, and cross-departmental coordination to maintain a secure and well-managed environment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates the use and daily operation of electronic security systems across the district
- Manages and maintains security platforms, ensuring system reliability and performance
- Audits system activity, access logs, and badge usage for accuracy and compliance
- Creates, issues, and manages employee, contractor, and visitor badges
- Supports contractor and vendor access, including credentialing and system onboarding
- Identifies and recommends improvements to existing security systems and workflows
- Collaborates with Technology staff and external vendors to troubleshoot and enhance systems
- Maintains accurate documentation, system configurations, and equipment inventory
- Develops and maintains reports, logs, and system documentation in alignment with district standards
- Prepares audit reports, compliance documentation, and system usage summaries
- Provides administrative support related to security operations and system management
- Assists with data collection and reporting for inspections, audits, and regulatory requirements
- Provides training and guidance to administrators, Safety Officers, School Resource Officers (SROs), and staff on security systems and procedures
- Serves as a primary point of contact for security system support and troubleshooting
- Promotes consistent, standardized practices for system use across all district sites
- Supports day-to-day school safety operations across campuses and district facilities
- Assists with safety drills, emergency response coordination, and incident management
- Conducts site inspections to ensure proper function and use of security systems
- Responds to system alerts, incidents, and service requests as needed
- Provides on-site support during high-traffic events and critical operational periods
- Ensures compliance with district policies, state regulations, and applicable safety standards
- Supports implementation and refinement of safety procedures and protocols
- Participates in threat assessment processes and safety planning initiatives
Identify operational gaps and recommend improvements to strengthen the overall security posture
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs related duties as required.
- Travels between schools and district facilities as required
Occasionally, work evening and after-hours in support of events or emergencies
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
- Minimum of 3�5 years of experience in school safety, security systems, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience with electronic security systems (access control, surveillance, alarm systems, and/or badging platforms) required
- Valid South Carolina Driver's License
- Must maintain confidentiality, handle sensitive information, and respond effectively under pressure or in emergencies
- The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of technical aptitude, as this role requires the use and management of multiple integrated security and technology systems.
