Job Description

We are looking for an Aftercryocooler Technician to join our manufacturing team at Bluefors in Syracuse, NY. In this role, you will support the assembly, fabrication, testing, and qualification of advanced cryogenic products, including Helium Reliquifiers (HeRL), Liquid Helium Plants (LHeP), Liquid Nitrogen Plants (LNP), and other customer-specific systems. Your responsibilities will include assembling, fabricating, and testing aftercryocooler products while following standard operating procedures and maintaining strict quality and safety standards. You will prepare cold heads and compressor packages for qualification testing by setting up tests, documenting results, and communicating findings with management. You will perform helium leak testing using specialized leak detection equipment, fabricate and install subassemblies, and assemble more complex customer-specific systems including CHCS, Auto Purifiers, and Compact Recovery Systems. In addition, you will review work orders, technical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and test procedures to ensure the latest revisions are being used before testing begins. You will maintain a clean and organized work area, support continuous improvement efforts, and perform additional duties as assigned.

We are looking for candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent, with additional technical training in mechanical, electrical, or welding disciplines preferred. Experience working in a manufacturing environment is beneficial, along with the ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, basic computer and math skills, and experience using hand and power tools. Experience using helium leak detection equipment is preferred. You should be detail-oriented, dependable, safety-conscious, and able to follow written work instructions while working both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Location: Syracuse, NY

Salary Range:

  • Aftercryocooler Technician I: $45,000 – $62,000 annually ($21.63 – $29.81/hour)

  • Aftercryocooler Technician II: $62,000 – $79,000 annually ($29.81 – $38.00/hour)

Main Responsibilities include the following:

  • Assemble, fabricate, and test Aftercryocooler products including HeRL, LHeP, and LNP systems

  • Prepare cold heads and compressor packages for qualification testing

  • Set up qualification tests, document results, and communicate findings to management

  • Perform helium leak testing using specialized leak detection equipment

  • Assemble complex customer-specific products including CHCS, Auto Purifiers, and Compact Recovery Systems

  • Fabricate and install mechanical subassemblies

  • Review work orders, test schedules, specifications, schematics, and wiring diagrams before testing

  • Read and follow standard operating procedures and work instructions

  • Maintain quality standards throughout assembly and testing processes

  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment safely and effectively

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

  • Complete ongoing technical training requirements

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives

  • Perform additional duties as assigned

What We Expect from You

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Technical training in mechanical, electrical, welding, or related field preferred

  • Manufacturing experience preferred

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and schematics

  • Ability to read and follow work instructions and technical documentation

  • Strong mechanical aptitude

  • Experience using hand tools and power tools

  • Experience using helium leak detection equipment preferred

  • Basic computer skills

  • Basic math skills including fractions and decimals

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, reach with hands and arms, and use hands and fingers for assembly and fabrication tasks. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate verbally. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This role operates in a manufacturing environment and regularly works around moving mechanical equipment and machinery. Employees may occasionally be exposed to heat, cold, humidity, airborne particles, vibration, electrical hazards, and moderately loud noise. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times as applicable. Employees are expected to maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment while following all established safety procedures.
