Head Lifeguard Job Description

DATE: August 28, 2019

TITLE: Lifeguard

LOCATION: KHSD Pool(s)

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum age of 16. This position requires leadership skills and a history of Lifeguarding and aquatics programs. Applicant is required to have thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques, diligence in work and attendance, an understanding of aquatic facility systems, rules, policies, and procedures, and decision-making skills. Applicant will be responsible for ensuring lifeguards on and off duty are well equipped and effective. Will be responsible for the safety of swimmers by preventing and responding to emergencies. 

Experience is required in the area of Lifeguarding and Aquatics Programs. Certifications in CPR/AED, First Aid, and Lifeguarding are required. Training and Recertification will be available seasonally through the KHSD Aquatics Coordinator.

A TEST ON GENERAL AQUATICS KNOWLEDGE AND SWIM CAPABILITY WILL BE REQUIRED PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT. 

A PRE-PLACEMENT MEDICAL ASSESSMENT AND CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK IS REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT. 

DUTIES OF POSITION: Responsible for the equipment used in lifesaving circumstances, evaluating the efficiency and skill of lifeguards, recognizing and responding quickly and effectively in emergencies, enforcing all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations, completing records and reports, participating in regular in-service training sessions, maintaining fitness level (swimming skills, strength, and endurance), and completing additional duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
