Job Description

Job Goal

To help build and enhance the self-image of the students with positive reinforcement and successful school experience.

Performance Responsibilities
 

  1. Assists in the identification and evaluation of students in need of special education programs.
  2. Administers, transfers, and interprets diagnostic data as appropriate to his/her area.
  3. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  4. Adapts the curriculum with individual plans and instructional materials to the needs of each pupil.
  5. Evaluates student's academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  6. Maintains a program inventory of materials and supplies.
  7. Submits budget request needs.
  8. Participates in the developing of a District-in-service educational program.
  9. Maintains lines of communication all stakeholders (i.e. staff, students, parents, administration)
  10. Maintains proper and adequate supervision of students at all times.
  11. Assists in supervising students in related activities outside of immediate classroom.
  12. Possesses a broad knowledge of special education and is able to transfer this knowledge into program activities.
  13. Responsible for maintaining his/her personal growth and development in the areas of special education.
  14. Reads professional literature pertinent to the field of special education.
  15. Willing to participate in self-evaluation activities in order to improve one's self/professional outlook.
  16. Other duties as may be assigned.


Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree
  2. Valid & Appropriate Arizona Special Education Teacher Certificate
  3. Valid AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Able to communicate effectively with staff, students, and community members.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls and use a keyboard or keypad. The employee occasionally is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk or sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus and monitor students on the periphery.
 
Work Environment

The employee regularly works indoors.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Salary

Per Board Approved 
 $6,000 Special Education Stipend 
Up to $5,000 Prop 301 Pay
