JOB TITLE: SpEd Speech Aide Interpreter

DUTY DAYS: 185 Days

PAY GRADE: C03

Primary Purpose:

Assist the speech pathologist with the instruction of students with limited English proficiency.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• High school diploma or GED

• Para Pro Exam or PAC test (No Child Left Behind)/48 College Hours
• Bilingual Test 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Demonstrate ability to read and write Spanish or Vietnamese as required by the district language proficiency exam. Possess the ability to work with small children.

Experience:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Assist with the preparation of instructional materials related to the speech I.E.P. for students
2. Assist with the instructional program by providing guidance and direction to students for drill and practice sessions and reviews in a small group setting
3. Assist limited English speaking parents by providing translation services during A.R.D. meetings and/or personal meetings
4. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal); maintain emotional control under stress; interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, and kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students, equipment, and materials. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
