Summer Lifeguard and Aquatic Support
Job Description
Primary Purpose:
To provide safety and care for athletes, students, and pedestrians that utilize the facility during hours of operation. Enforce the facility rules and requirements during events and daily operations.
Qualifications:
Education/Training:
Must be at least 16 years of age
Lifeguards need to possess or obtain Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Thorough knowledge and application of swimming and water safety skills
Ability to react efficiently and effectively in emergency rescue situations
Ability to perform assigned tasks requiring physical strength and agility
Ability and willingness to swim and get in the pool
Customer Service skills
Experience:
Experience can vary: water safety, aquatics sports including water polo, swimming and diving, teaching swim lessons, customer service
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Serves as lifeguard and/or support position for all aquatic programs, and events held at Southwest ISD Aquatic Center, such as but not limited to front desk check -ins, teaching swim lessons, assist coaching in aquatic sports, score tables, meet set up and take down.
- Attend and update all lesson certifications.
- Ensures general safety, cleanliness, and appearance in and around the pool area.
- Assist with set-up of activities/programs.
- Monitors all facility program participants for safety.
- Monitors all facility spectators for safety.
- Represent the program in a professional and mature manner at all times.
- Assist and teach summer swim lessons in accordance with SWISD program guidelines.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings/in-service as required by Supervisor.
- Have a positive and cheerful personality.
- Ability to communicate with staff, parents and swimmers.
- Must pass all skills on in-services, trainings, and quick response checks.
- Maintains confidentiality of information.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Posture: Moderate walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, twisting and sitting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (up to 50+ lbs.)
Environment: Work indoors with exposure to pool chemicals, vapors and damp/wet conditions; May be
required under specific circumstances to physically rescue pool participant(s) in danger
Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, effective management and public relation skills, and ability to maintain emotional control under stress
