KITCHEN ASSISTANT - HILLCREST ELEMENTARY
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- To maintain schools and other facilities to the extent that students and employees can work in a healthy and safe environment.
- To work collaboratively with the department and building administration.
- To foster an inclusive work environment and maintain high morale.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate.
- Excellent attendance record.
- Fluent written and verbal English and Arabic are preferred.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in all phases of food preparation, service, and proper food storage, to help ensure efficiency in these areas, and all follow-up operations work in the cafeteria according to established procedures and methods.
- Ability to follow food preparation instructions and serve all food and beverages according to cafeteria safety and sanitary policies.
- Arrange food and beverages on steam tables, a la carte trays, or mobile carts to make items available for students.
- Ability to serve students by the menu or personal preference.
- Perform duties such as cleaning utensils, cooking, and storage equipment.
- Perform cleaning and sanitizing in serving areas each day.
- Employee must be willing to assist in other areas of the cafeteria, including but not limited to the cashier.
- Ability to work as a team, as each cafeteria worker is responsible for a cooperative working environment.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Food Service Supervisor.

- Performs occasional lifting and carrying objects up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Work involves medium-heavy lifting of boxes, reaching, pushing, pulling, stooping, climbing, maneuvering in confined spaces, and prolonged standing and walking. It also requires exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, and smells commonly associated with cooking, cleaning, and school in general.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects and tools; and talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit.
- The employee frequently must squat, stop, or kneel, reach above the head, and reach forward.
- The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
- The employee may frequently lift, push/pull, and/or move such items as food trays or mobile food carts, cleaning supplies, pails, trash receptacles,

SALARY: $14.30 per hour
EVALUATION: Annual
EFFECTIVE DATE: 2025-26 School Year
