Job Description

POSITION: Multilingual Learner (MLL)/English Learner (EL) Jump Start Summer 

Program Paraprofessional (Temporary Summer Position)

16 Positions

LOCATION: Field Elementary School 

 

DURATION: Professional Development June 23rd � June 25th 

Program Schedule: June 29th � July 23rd (Monday � Thursday)

8:00 am � 12:00pm

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1. High School graduate or equivalent

2. Must be "highly qualified" as defined in the No Child Left Behind Act

a. Associates Degree or higher �or-

b. 60 college credits �or-

a. Passing score on the Work Keys test or the ETS Parapro Assessment https://www.ets.org/parapro

3. Experience in working with young children in elementary and middle school instructional setting

4. Knowledge of EL methods.

5. Bilingual candidates must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.

6. Strong organizational skills.

7. Ability to work cooperatively with building staff and parents.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1.  Supports classroom learning and English Language development under the direction of the teacher in small groups or with individual students.
  2.  Assists students with classroom activities as directed by the teacher.
  3.  Provides assistance with parent/school communication.
  4.  Handles compliance documentation as directed by EL Director.
  5.  Bending, lifting, and overhead work required.
  6.  Performs other tasks as assigned

SALARY/PAY RATE: $18.00 hourly rate (Summer only)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
 
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 


Upon recommendation for employment, Section 1230g, as amended, of the Revised School Code requires all school employees to be electronically finger printed for the purpose of undergoing a criminal history background check. The fingerprinting is conducted by a third party and is at the expense of the applicant. Cost for fingerprinting is approximately $70.00.
