Based on our internal equity review process, the starting hourly wage for this position will be $34.60
The full-salary range for this position is $34.60- $42.97 per hour.

Position Information
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of semi-skilled duties related to the maintenance and operation activities of the Point Defiance Marina Complex; perform general maintenance to rental boats, docks, gangways, buildings, grounds tools, electrical systems, plumbing systems, vehicles and other boathouse equipment;, train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned staff.

In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to:

  • Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.
Perform a variety of semi-skilled duties related to the maintenance and repair of marina buildings, docks, floats, gangways, tools, HVAC and other equipment, roofs, gutters, and marina owned vessels and equipment.
 
Maintain a safe and operational fleet of rental boats, outboard motors, and kayaks. Perform routine mechanical and electrical maintenance, minor repairs, replace worn or defective parts, test, operate, and maintain records and reports of all performed work. Operate a computer and various software related to assigned maintenance.
 
Perform custodial services required to maintain assigned buildings, offices, facilities, and adjacent ground areas in a clean, orderly, and secure condition.
 
Perform a variety of operational and preventive maintenance duties related to the boat elevators. Serve as primary contact for licensed contract repairs, maintenances, and inspections; lubricate and inspect chain hoists and gates; inspect winch brakes for wear, perform routine maintenance on air compressors; maintain and submit related records for inspection and permits.
 
Perform various duties related to the operation and maintenance of Vessel Pump Out equipment. Inspect and record various water and sewer meters and pumps..
 
Maintain boat storage and retail shop facilities; repair or replace windows, doors, locks, concrete decks, bollards, railings, gates, and others facility components.
 
Operate and maintain a variety of specialized equipment and machinery, including front loader, blower, sweeper, saws, compressors, dump trucks, back hoes, hoists, hand tools, and others. 

Inspect fire sprinkler system, air compressor, air and water gauges and test according to established guidelines.

Assist in the creation and implementation of the Point Defiance Marina’s long and short term capital improvement program – needs assessments, condition assessments, inventory updates and changes, estimated replacement values and schedules.
Assist Supervisor in the creation and implementation of the Point Defiance Marina’s preventative maintenance program.
 
Open and close the Point Defiance Marina facilities as assigned; lock and unlock doors and equipment, arm and disarm the alarm system. 

Perform emergency first aid and CPR as needed and according to established guidelines

Provide work direction and guidance to others as assigned.

Operate a motorized vehicle to travel to multiple locations to carry out essential duties. Adhere to all driving laws and safety rules.

Assist with various operations and activities related to assigned location.
 
Perform related duties as assigned.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school and four years experience in mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, electrical or other technical trade.

LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid CPR and First Aid card obtained within the probationary period.
Valid Washington driver's license with acceptable driving record. 
Able to work a schedule which may include weekends and holidays.

This position is a represented position with the International Union of Operating Engineers.

HOURS:
40 hours per week.
Anticipated work schedule will be Tuesday - Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor, outdoor and shop environment with exposure to year-round weather conditions.
Over-water work conducted from docks, floating structures, raised structures, and vessels 
Exposure to salt-water, sea air, wildlife including seagulls, fish, rodents. 
Loud motors and/or running equipment.
Fumes, motor exhaust, cleaning solvents.
Driving a vehicle to conduct work
 
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Pulling, pushing, carrying and lifting objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
Climbing ladders and working at heights above 30'.
Walking on uneven terrain and/or slippery surfaces, standing, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, twisting.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and specialized tools and equipment
 Seeing to read and prepare record and reports
 Hearing and speaking to exchange information and be heard over running motors or equipment.
 Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally 
 Standing for extended periods of time 

HAZARDS:
Exposure to noise from boats and equipment operation
Exposure to adverse weather conditions
Working on ladders or scaffolding at heights and on roofs
Working around and with machinery having moving parts.
Working on and over water
Exposure to dust and chemical fumes
Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals.
 
 KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Principles, methods, equipment, tools and materials of semi-skilled rough and finish carpentry work.
  • Structural engineering, building and safety codes and regulations.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques. 
  • Technical aspects of field of specialty.
  • Shop math.
  • Methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work.
  • Preferred methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls and fixtures.
  •  Health and safety regulations.
  • Computerized asset and facility maintenance management systems
  • Marine and floating structures and their associated maintenance needs
 ABILITY TO:
  •  Perform semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work to repair, construct or remodel of Park District buildings, facilities and equipment.
  • Estimate costs of projects.
  • Understand and work from blueprints.
  • Draw plans and prepare specifications.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Maintain related records and reports.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Work efficiently to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
  • Carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Work cooperatively with others .
  • Operate equipment used in the cleaning of facilities.
