• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or CPC required.

• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or RHIA acceptable.

• High School graduate or equivalent required.

• College level medical terminology course or knowledge of medical terminology through work experience required.

• College level Anatomy and Physiology course required

• Anatomy and Physiology course may be pursued during first year of employment.

• Two years Coding experience in the acute care setting required with acquisition of RHIT or CCS within 3 years from date of hire.

•  Maintenance of Continuing Education (CE) hours in Coding or Coding-related topics as approved by Director/Medical Records annually. Completion of Continuing Education Tracking Form annually for 1/1 - 12/31 credentialing period.

• Proficiency with Coding/Abstracting and grouper software, file maintenance routines helpful. Demonstrates PC and report proficiency.

• Additional knowledge of Record Locator application.

• Ability to research coding issues in AHA Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and other available resources such as the Medical Library.
