Job Description

Provides nutrition services support at Logan Health Medical Center by assisting with food preparation, stocking, sanitation, and customer service in the cafeteria and related service areas. Ensures safe food handling, maintains clean and organized workspaces, and supports efficient daily meal service operations.

This position performs a variety of food service duties including preparation, stocking, dishwashing, and customer service in accordance with Logan Health policies and procedures. Works collaboratively with kitchen and cafeteria staff to ensure efficient operations and a positive customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepares and portions food items such as desserts, grab-and-go items, and condiments
  • Stocks and replenishes food, beverages, utensils, and supplies using FIFO practices
  • Maintains clean, organized, and sanitary work areas
  • Assists cooks and service staff during meal preparation and service
  • Performs dishwashing and sanitation duties
  • Monitors and records food and equipment temperatures
  • Ensures service areas are fully stocked and ready for meal service
  • Provides excellent customer service to patients, staff, and visitors
  • Assists with cafeteria, salad bar, and patient meal services as needed
  • Completes cleaning tasks and supports inventory/stocking needs
  • Follows all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures

Typical Shift Workflow (Example)

  • 5:45–6:45 AM: Set up service areas, check temperatures, stock trays, and prepare grab-and-go items
  • 6:45–8:00 AM: Restock supplies, assist breakfast service, support kitchen staff
  • 8:00–10:00 AM: Cleaning tasks, prep work, and break coverage
  • 10:00–11:00 AM: Dishwashing, prep for lunch service, restocking
  • 11:00 AM–1:00 PM: Support lunch service (salad bar, stocking, customer service)
  • 1:00–2:00 PM: Cleaning, restocking, and closing tasks

Shift times and duties may vary based on departmental needs.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred:

  • 1 year of healthcare or food service experience
  • ServSafe or Food Handler certification
  • Food prep, customer service, or barista experience

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced healthcare food service setting
  • Requires standing, walking, and frequent movement
  • May involve lifting and handling food service equipment

Schedule: PRN Status

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week.  Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.

PRN positions (also referred to as Casual, As Needed, or Per Diem) at Logan Health offer flexibility and are designed to provide coverage during busy periods, employee absences, and vacations, making them an excellent opportunity to support the team as needed. PRN employees can participate in a matching 401(k) plan and have access to the Employee Assistance Program. Additionally, they may qualify for hourly differential pay for certain shifts or hours, offering extra compensation based on department-specific scheduling needs. Pay rates and scheduling practices may vary by department.
