SUMMARY:
Blends routine and non-routine chemical agents to develop new products or improve existing products. Evaluates and tests products to determine conformance to product development goas or established quality control standards. Monitors production batches and new product and existing product.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Includes the following, but other duties may be assigned as company’s needs dictate.
• Actively participates in programs for product development related activities, including blending, mixing, homogenization, and short-term product stability evaluations.
• Also, includes development of manufacturing instructions and oversight of pilot manufactured batches of laboratory formulas.
• Investigates new raw materials, second, or replacement sourcing of raw materials. Aids in the development of testing specifications for raw materials, process intermediates and finished goods.
• Aids in programs to develop and validate new or improved processes, by evaluating uniformity of resultant materials.
• Keeps laboratory records with regards to research and analysis activities according to applicable government regulations, manufacturing processes, or other considerations.
• Interprets results of laboratory activities and provides report of activities to management.
• Be abreast of industry trends.
• Participates in vendor qualifications through evaluation in packaging and ingredients.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in a scientific discipline; and 2 or more years related experience and/or training in cosmetics formulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have thorough knowledge of common compounding techniques and ingredients.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific literature, technical journals, and legal documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and analytical methods procedures. Ability to effectively present information to company management and staff.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and statistical formulas and functions.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to apply principles of logical and scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

SUMMARY Conducts research and analysis concerning chemistry of cosmetics by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Studies effects of various methods of processing, preservation, and packaging on composition and properties of foods such as color, texture, aroma, taste, shelf life.
Performs quality control tests in Cosmetics Department and processing.
Ability to use instruments in Cosmetic Lab.
Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
Audits batch records and maintains recordkeeping in the Cosmetic Lab.
Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
Analyzes new compounded products, intermediate and finished products following Sunrider's specifications and performs required analysis such as: viscosity, pH, moisture, specific gravity, and others.
Analyzes cosmetic bulk materials and provides adjustments of batches when necessary.
Approves/rejects compounded products, intermediate and finished products based upon Sunrider's specifications.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in a scientific discipline from four-year college or university; and a minimum of 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from departmental manager/supervisor or other employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, and quadratic equations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
COMPUTER SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
