Job Description

Under clinical supervision, assists in the delivery of patient care and treatment according to policies and procedures and Logan Health (LH) MAU/UAP (Unlicensed Assistive Personnel) scope of practice. Provides administrative support and works collaboratively with Physicians, Advanced Practice Clinicians, RNs, LPNs and other department staff to meet the physical, psychosocial, education and spiritual needs of the patient and family.

Job Profile Summary:

Under clinical supervision, the Medical Assistant assists in the delivery of patient care and treatment according to established policies, procedures, and the Logan Health MA/UAP scope of practice. This role provides both clinical and administrative support while working collaboratively with Physicians, Advanced Practice Clinicians, RNs, LPNs, and other department staff to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational, and spiritual needs of patients and families. What You’ll Do:

Prepare patients for examination and treatment per clinic protocol, including obtaining and documenting histories and vital signs

Chart and document accurately in the electronic medical record and collect laboratory specimens as needed

Prepare exam rooms, equipment, and supplies based on patient needs and procedures

Assist Physicians and Advanced Practice Clinicians with exams and minor procedures

Perform minor procedures including suture/staple removal, dressing application, splints, and casts as directed

Clean and disinfect equipment according to departmental policies and infection control standards

Support scheduling of appointments, diagnostic testing, treatments, procedures, and surgeries

Assist with patient registration, co-pay collection, and prior authorizations as needed

Collect and route patient information from phone calls and patient portal messages to appropriate clinical staff

Participate in required meetings, committees, and departmental initiatives as requested

Support process improvement and/or risk management activities under leadership direction

May perform scribe duties (with approved training), including accurate transcription of medical documentation, proofreading, and ensuring completeness and accuracy of patient records

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, documentation standards, and clinical processes

Maintain regular and consistent attendance as scheduled by department leadership

Qualifications:

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential required

Minimum of one (1) year experience in a practice setting preferred

Current Healthcare Provider CPR preferred or must be obtained prior to completion of orientation

Medical office experience and medical terminology training preferred

Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, basic laboratory values, medical terminology, aseptic technique, infection control, and medical equipment preferred

Knowledge of HIPAA, patient rights, regulatory standards, and confidentiality requirements preferred

Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to prioritize in a changing workload environment

Ability to remain professional, positive, and adaptable under pressure

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers

Ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy

Strong commitment to teamwork and maintaining confidentiality

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software systems as required

Ability to act with integrity, kindness, and empathy while promoting high-quality outcomes and patient-centered care

Schedule:

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.

PRN positions (also referred to as Casual, As Needed, or Per Diem) at Logan Health offer flexibility and are designed to provide coverage during busy periods, employee absences, and vacations, making them an excellent opportunity to support the team as needed. PRN employees can participate in a matching 401(k) plan and have access to the Employee Assistance Program. Additionally, they may qualify for hourly differential pay for certain shifts or hours, offering extra compensation based on department-specific scheduling needs. Pay rates and scheduling practices may vary by department.
