Under the direction of the Clinic Director, the Medical Assistant (Credentialed/Certified) performs essential clinical and administrative functions to support safe, efficient delivery of ambulatory patient care at the South Loop Comprehensive Medicine Clinic located at 2600 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60616. Duties Responsibilities: Clinical Patient Care Intake Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining and documenting medical histories, chief complaints, and intake screenings (e.g., smoking status, PHQ‑2, medication reconciliation). Measure and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, and other clinical data as required. Perform phlebotomy, collect laboratory specimens, conduct basic laboratory tests, and process specimens in accordance with clinic and laboratory protocols. Administer vaccines and assist providers during examinations and clinical procedures. Perform EKGs and other diagnostic testing within scope of practice. Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent or emergent situations in accordance with established protocols, including use of Basic Life Support (BLS) skills as required. Exam Room Equipment Preparation Prepare, stock, and clean exam rooms before and after patient visits; ensure availability of appropriate supplies, clean linens, and functioning equipment. Clean, disinfect, and sterilize medical instruments and equipment in accordance with infection control standards. Ensure medical records and test results are available to providers prior to patient encounters. Ensure appropriate hand‑off of responsibilities when tasks are completed. Patient Flow, Scheduling Front Desk Support Greet patients and register them for appointments; verify demographics, insurance coverage, and authorization requirements. Schedule, confirm, and reschedule patient appointments as needed; coordinate care with other clinics or departments. Facilitate patient check‑in and check‑out processes to support efficient clinic operations. Answer patient questions and provide general information within scope; escalate concerns to appropriate clinical staff as needed. Administrative Communication Support Assist providers with clinical documentation, forms, and paperwork as assigned. Manage Medical Assistant message pools and support nursing staff with patient communications and follow‑up. Ensure accuracy and completeness of patient-related information in the electronic health record. Escalate clinical or administrative concerns to the Clinic Nurse or Clinic Director as appropriate. Inventory, Compliance Professional Responsibilities Monitor and manage clinical inventory; restock exam rooms and phlebotomy areas. Place medical supply orders and coordinate with vendors on a routine basis. Comply with OSHA, infection control, and safety standards, including bloodborne pathogen and sharps safety protocols. Maintain required certifications and training. Meet established attendance and scheduling requirements; maintain a professional appearance and demeanor. Demonstrate respect for cultural diversity and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and leadership. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
