Director of Budget and Financial Reporting

Position Summary The Director of Budget and Financial Reporting is a senior Academic Professional responsible for leading the development, integration, and oversight of the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System operating and capital budgets, financial reporting, and long-range financial planning activities. Reporting within the Finance leadership structure, this role serves as a key financial advisor to executive leadership, clinical and administrative leaders, and University partners. The Director plays a critical role in ensuring financial transparency, stewardship of public resources, and alignment between institutional strategy, operational performance, and University reporting requirements within a complex academic medical center environment. Duties Responsibilities Budget Development and Financial Planning Lead the annual operating and capital budget process for the hospital and affiliated entities Develop budget assumptions, guidance, timelines, and standardized methodologies Review departmental budget submissions for accuracy and alignment with institutional priorities Partner with leadership to evaluate staffing, clinical, academic, and capital initiatives Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis and forecasts Financial Reporting and Stewardship Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports Ensure compliance with accounting standards, University policies, and regulations Translate financial results into clear executive level narratives Support audits and promote transparency and accountability Strategic and Long Range Financial Analysis Support multiyear financial forecasts and long range plans Analyze financial impacts of strategic initiatives and regulatory changes Leadership and Collaboration Lead and develop professional staff Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership Collaborate with University finance partners and College of Medicine leadership Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
