Job Description

Who We Are

We're an iconic Aussie brand with a global footprint. Our purpose is to build a connected future so everyone can thrive. We're all about providing the best experience and delivering the best tech on the best network.

This includes making Telstra the place you want to work. For you, that means having a career that grows with you and working with a team powered by human connection that prioritizes wellbeing and choice.

Focus of the Role

Drive data-led quality engineering practices across complex, domain-specific platforms, ensuring solutions meet defined service standards and customer-centric outcomes.

Operate across software engineering, distributed systems, and service orchestration environments, with a focus on validating event-driven, asynchronous, and integration-heavy architectures.

Lead validation of multi-system, API-first, and orchestration-driven solutions, ensuring production-grade reliability across functional, integration, and non-functional dimensions.

Enable observability-led and autonomous quality practices by embedding validation into CI/CD pipelines, leveraging system insights, telemetry, and continuous feedback loops.

Contribute to solution maturity through proof-of-concepts, reusable validation frameworks, and quality engineering innovation, ensuring scalability and consistency across delivery streams.

What We Offer

  • Performance-related pay
  • Access to thousands of learning programs so you can level-up
  • Purchased annual leave scheme
  • Additional Telstra day off
  • 30% off Telstra products and services
  • Toolkit provided (laptop, mobile phone and plan)

What You’ll Do

Success in the role is demonstrated by:

  • Lead validation of end-to-end service orchestration flows across multi-system, distributed environments, ensuring alignment with service standards and customer outcomes.
  • Translate ambiguous, domain-specific requirements into structured, data-led validation strategies across functional, integration, and non-functional layers.
  • Drive release-level quality ownership, including governance, risk and issue management, defect lifecycle, and structured sign-off decisions.
  • Design and implement automation frameworks using Cypress (Cucumber BDD) for validating event-driven, asynchronous service orchestration flows across distributed architectures.
  • Build automation capable of validating stateful transactions, dependency chains, retries, and failure recovery scenarios across integrated platforms.
  • Enable CI/CD-integrated autonomous testing, including environment-aware validations and continuous feedback mechanisms.
  • Develop reusable, domain-aligned automation assets supporting end-to-end validation rather than isolated test cases.
  • Perform proof-of-concepts (PoCs) to validate tooling, frameworks, and emerging testing approaches in orchestration-driven environments.
  • Analyse and validate complex dependency chains spanning APIs, orchestration layers, upstream/downstream systems, and data flows.
  • Validate event-driven and asynchronous processing models, ensuring correctness across distributed system interactions.
  • Ensure validation coverage across integration boundaries, failure scenarios, and system recovery mechanisms.
  • Provide data-backed insights, risk assessments, and quality metrics to support delivery decisions and release readiness.
  • Collaborate with engineering, architecture, network, and platform teams, including multi-vendor delivery environments.
  • Influence solution design, validation approaches, and delivery outcomes through strong technical and domain inputs.
  • Drive observability-led validation practices, leveraging logs, metrics, and system insights for quality assurance.
  • Improve quality engineering maturity through automation, reusability, and process optimisation.
  • Promote adoption of modern practices including autonomous testing, continuous validation, and DevOps-aligned delivery models.

About You

Essential

  • Experience working across large-scale transformation or migration programs involving complex service orchestration and multi-system integration environments.
  • Proven experience validating event-driven and asynchronous architectures in distributed system landscapes.
  • Strong ability to operate at the intersection of data, software engineering, and domain-specific platforms.
  • Deep experience in end-to-end quality ownership, including governance, risk management, and release readiness.
  • Hands-on experience building automation solutions aligned to orchestration-driven, integration-heavy systems, not limited to UI/API layer validation.
  • Strong systems thinking with the ability to understand and validate complex service dependencies, transactions, and failure scenarios.
  • Experience working across multi-vendor, multi-team delivery environments with high interdependencies.
  • Ability to communicate technical insights, risks, and quality outcomes effectively to stakeholders.

Technical Skills

  • Data-led quality engineering and analytical decision-making
  • End-to-end validation across distributed, multi-system, orchestration-driven architectures
  • Experience implementing Cypress (Cucumber BDD) automation for event-driven and asynchronous service validation
  • Test strategy, governance, risk management, and release sign-off practices
  • API and integration testing across microservices and orchestrated platforms
  • CI/CD-aligned automation and autonomous testing practices
  • Observability-led validation using logs, monitoring, and system insights
  • Validation of service orchestration flows, dependency chains, and recovery mechanisms
