PRIMARY PURPOSE:
In the absence of the classroom teacher, the substitute teacher will provide instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans utilizing the appropriate learning activities and experiences as specified by the classroom teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED required
Substitute Certificate, Valid Teaching Certificate or Educator Preparation Program Verification Required
If applies, verification of minimum scaled scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) of 24 Speaking, 22 Listening, 22 Reading, 21 Writing when the education is attained in a language other than English required
48+ College hours preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Fluent in the English Language (Oral, Reading, Writing)
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability both orally and in writing, to present information effectively and respond appropriately to questions and concerns from individuals, administrators, parents, and students when needed.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in teacher lesson plans.
- Read, analyze, and interpret lesson plans, technical procedures, and textbooks.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Monitor students in accordance with teacher direction.
- Manage student behavior and maintain order in the classroom.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity of students.
- Follow the established classroom discipline management plan and maintain order in the classroom.
- Protect and respect the confidentiality of the students.
- Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
- Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned.
- Maintains professional appearance as an example to students.
- Completes duties as assigned.
- Remains at school the entire school day, unless otherwise instructed to leave by building principal.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

- Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- The work environment includes inside and outside areas.
- Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing; move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
