PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The role of the Metal Trades/Welding Teacher is to provide instructional activities for all students interested in metal trades

QUALIFICATIONS:
Trade and Industrial Education
Vocational Trades and Industry with or appropriate work approval
OR
Bachelor's Degree in any major field and three years wage-earning experience in the occupation for which instruction is being given
Statement of Qualifications must be approved and on file with the Texas Education Agency
Willingness to attend TEA Teacher certification courses
Highly Qualified as per NCLB guidelines, if applicable to teaching assignment
 
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • To provide students with a course of study in oxyacetylene, arc, tit, and Ming welding as well as machine shop layout and bench work, lath operation, milling, grinding and drilling.
  • To provide an effective and meaningful learning experience in Metal Trades through the use of varied materials, tools, equipment, and teaching techniques.
  • To provide an opportunity for students to fully explore their interest in Metal Trades through field trip, resource personnel, On the Job Training (O.J.T.), and career counseling.
  • To consistently develop written lesson plans for the implementation of instructional programs for the specific assignment in accordance with district guidelines and course objectives.
  • To demonstrate and maintain effective communication with students and promote a positive in all students.
  • Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise assigned teacher aide(s)


EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Oxyacetylene torch, various welding equipment, hand tools, metal working equipment, grinders, drills, etc.


WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing; move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment; lifting of heavy equipment (50 lbs.)
