Job Description

SCHOOL NUTRITION: ASSISTANT MANAGER
2 Positions Available Smokey Road Middle and Lee Middle
POSITION SUMMARY
Assist the School Nutrition Manager in the overall operation of the school lunchroom program
and provide leadership and direction by example to all workers. Prepare, cook, serve, and
clean as assigned by the manager. Supervise personnel in the absence of the manager.
Efficiently handle all emergency procedures in the absence of the manager. Assist daily with
menu planning, ordering food and supplies, inventory, and school nutrition record keeping.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the manager and school nutrition office. Excellent
attendance and punctuality, per the CCSS policy.
REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: Required

  •  High School Diploma or GED required.

Preferred

  •  GADOE Manager Pathway Courses completed
  • GADOE Culinary Pathway Courses completed Preferred


CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Required
SeveSafe Manager Certification (Current)
If and when the certification expires, the assistant manager must be able to pass the retake
exam within two attempts to keep the position.
One initial ServSafe booklet and test will be purchased by SNO. Exam retakes and additional
tests are purchased by the applicant.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  •  Complete 10 hours of in-service annually in specific areas (certifications, verification,

meal counting and meal claiming procedures, reimbursable meals at the POS, nutrition
health and safety standards, or any topic required by FNS, as needed to address the Program)

  •  Complete O.N.E. (Orientation of New Employees) during the first school year the applicant was hired.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
Preferred

  •  Cafeteria experience (2 years).
  • 2 years experience in electronic point-of-sale software.

Required

  •  Ability to perform the major responsibilities and duties of the School Nutrition manager in his/her absence.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in food service.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Basic food-handling skills.
Ability to maintain a positive attitude.
Ability to communicate with co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect.
Proficiently use a computer, point of sale software, and electronic food production records.
Able to comprehend printed recipes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Supervises and evaluates food assistant workers and develops work schedules.
Supervises and coordinates activities of workers who prepare, cook, serve food,
clean premises, collect money, operate POS systems, and wash dishware.
Participate in preparing and cooking meals.
Trains staff as it relates to food preparation procedures and safety regulations.
Ensures accuracy of deliveries, food, and supplies by checking vendor invoices and prices as products are delivered.
Properly organize storerooms and storage areas.
Orders weekly food and supplies from approved vendors and USDA when necessary
Ensures proper accountability of inventory (food and paper goods).
Understands and follows all guidelines on safety, food production, food specification, and ordering.
Manages the preparation of nutritious meals following federal, state, and local standards.
Records daily production of food and inventories of all food supplies and equipment.
Follows approved recipes to comply with company, state, and federal regulations.
Manages the cash register which includes counting and recording all daily transactions.
Completes all assigned daily records and documentation, including cash deposit slips, cash reports, edits check worksheets, and other paperwork.
Required to have prompt, regular attendance in person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
Responsible for notifying the School Nutrition Office before other departments or agencies regarding SNS-specific issues, needs, or concerns. 
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the manager and school nutrition office.
