Job Description

Position Summary: The Student Intern role within the Information Services (iServ) Division at WestCare involves actively participating in day-to-day operations and projects under the guidance of a mentor and iServ leadership. The intern will have the opportunity to engage in in-house training programs aimed at enhancing their technical knowledge and skills. This position provides practical experience through hands-on involvement in technical tasks and real-world situations. Additionally, interns will have the chance to job shadow and collaborate as part of a team.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Works with the Director of Strategic Integration and Executive Support to develop a rotation schedule and internship responsibilities and deliverables that align with the Student Intern’s interests, experience, and/or education.
  • Receives training related to internship responsibilities and carries out assigned tasks to support a variety of teams and departments within Information Services (iServ), including Information Technology, Information Security, Software Development, Data Analytics and Business Intelligence, and Marketing and Communications.
  • Attends weekly team meetings to review project/task status and share updates.
  • Completes an exit interview and an evaluation form at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Works with iServ leaders to build and maintain a team-oriented environment that promotes dependability and fairness and rewards collaboration, information sharing, tolerance, and open-mindedness.
  • Adheres to all WestCare’s policies, plans, standards, and procedures.
  • Embraces and embodies the mission, vision, shared principles, and goals of WestCare.
  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Must be honest and ethical, verifiable through character references.
  • Must have the demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively explain complex technical concepts and issues to non-technical and business audiences.
  • Must have proficiency with applicable technologies, including operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must learn quickly in a highly technical and continually changing environment.
  • Must have the ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, with others in a manner that is pleasant and professional.
  • Must have a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean motor vehicle record, as well as carry applicable insurance as required by state law.
  • Must have the willingness to travel to other WestCare facilities when necessary.
  • Must have the willingness to be cross-trained in a variety of Information Services functions.

 

Education:

 

  • Current or prospective student or graduate of an information security, information technology, computer science, data analytics, marketing, or related information services program preferred.

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • Work is performed primarily in a professional office or program setting.
  • Up to 25 hours of work per week are expected. Completion of job duties may require working before and after normal working hours. Regular attendance is required.

 

Essential Physical and Mental Demands of the Job: The employee must be able to perform the following essential duties and activities with or without accommodation:

 

Physical Demands:

 

  • Requires mobility and physical activity: Having an adequate range of body motion and mobility to work in an office, including standing and walking (even and uneven surfaces), sitting for extended periods of time, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, occasional lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds. Use of computer and telephone systems is required which includes coordination of eye and hand, and fine manipulation by the hands (typing, writing, and working with files).
  • Requires talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is required to impart oral information to employees, clients, patients, and the public, and in those activities in which the employee is required to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Requires hearing: Hearing is required to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication.
  • Requires seeing: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and at distance. This factor is required to conduct computer operations or complete paperwork for many essential job functions.
  • The normal work routine involves no exposure to human blood, body fluids or tissues. However, if exposure or potential exposure is possible, appropriate personal protective equipment is readily available to every employee.

 

Mental Demands:

 

  • Requires the ability to collect and analyze complex numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions.
  • Requires the ability to work and cooperate with clients, co-workers, managers, the public and employees at all levels in order to exchange ideas, information, instructions and opinions.
  • Requires the ability to work under stress and in emotionally charged settings.
