
Director of Literacy and Social Science (Anticipated)
Job Description
The Director of Literacy and Social Science works collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent of Student Learning.
ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate the PreK-8 literacy/social science curriculum and instruction programs
- Serve as the primary resource on all matters of literacy/social science teaching and learning
- Support staff in analyzing and interpreting data for continuous improvement of student achievement in literacy/social science
- In collaboration with the Director of Strategic Systems and Continuous Improvement, organize and implement research-based professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators to improve student achievement in literacy
- Oversee and monitor the implementation of the district's comprehensive core literacy/social science program
- Facilitate and monitor the alignment of the literacy/social science curriculum, instruction and assessment from PreK-8th grades well as reflect the standards in assessments, report cards, etc.
- Remain updated regarding best-practice research in literacy instruction
- Coordinate the literacy/social science curriculum development and ongoing review process, inclusive of leading an adoption process in coordination with the Assistant Superintendent of Student Learning
- In collaboration with the Department of Student Learning, support the facilitation, training, data-review and professional learning for components of the MTSS framework district-wide
- In collaboration with the Director of Strategic Systems and Continuous Improvement, develop, monitor the impact of, and recommend district-wide literacy intervention programs
- Additional duties as assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Professional Educator License with:
- Language Arts endorsement, preferred
- General Administrative endorsement
- Teacher Evaluator designation
- Social Science endorsement, preferred
- Reading Specialist endorsement, preferred
- Master's Degree in Reading/Language Arts, preferred
- Demonstrated track record of improving student Literacy and Social Science skills
- Knowledge of biliteracy and second language acquisition
- Outstanding presentation, facilitation, and strong organizational skills
- Proficient with Google application
- Successful experience facilitating groups, training, or working in a coaching position
- Proven organizational and time management skills
- Ability to lead and manage complex projects
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, supervisory personnel, and administration
- Excellent consultation and collaboration skills
- Excellent communication skills � written, verbal, and presentation
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Physical requirements include, sitting, standing, bending, walking, and lifting equipment and materials
