Job Description:
The Senior Long Term Planning Engineer is site based and covers the long term planning functional deliverables and work elements supporting the SSR Mining Cripple Creek and Victor Mine. The position reports to the Mine Technical Services Manager. Responsibilities include management of the Cripple Creek & Victor long term planning team, delivery of business planning, reserves and resources, support of site based studies, projects, continuous improvement, and strategic resource development activities.
Day to Day:
The Senior Long Term Planning Engineer key outputs include:
Delivery of reliable, timely and well communicated long term mine planning results.
Quality control of site long term planning outputs as they relate to SSR Mining CC&V business needs.
Stakeholder management across site mine planning and other cross functional site teams.
Identification and application of improvements associated with site opportunities and replication of best practices acquired from other sites.
In addition, the Senior Long Term Planning Lead will:
Be responsible for delivery of Life of Asset mine and supporting facilities design, scheduling, and optimization.
Be responsible for generating optimized Life of Asset scenario planning deliverables which will be consistent within the site and regional strategic context.
Provide technical Risk and Opportunity characterization at the mine site level for Life of Asset plans.
Partner with the site mine planning team and Technical Services manager to produce the Life of Asset production plan, allowing the site team to focus on execution of the plans. Main objective to produce a Life of Asset production plan with challenging but achievable inputs, with transparent risks and opportunities identified.
Produce and be responsible for the site Reserves and Resources estimation and reporting.
Develop long term planning talent under the guidance of the Regional Lead and SME/governance group.
Provide visible and felt leadership in support of health, safety, security, and S&ER programs.
Responsible for the generation of timely and accurate long-term planning work packages at the site:
Business Plan Physicals and associated documentation for the +2 year to Life of Mine plan, in collaboration with the site planning teams.
Long-term supporting facilities design and planning, Life of Mine infrastructure and support for reclamation and closure planning
Optimization of pit, leach pad and dump designs
Mentor other engineers in long range mining engineering
Execute long term mine planning standard procedures, guidelines, standards, best practices, and planning improvement initiatives at the site, including consideration of safety in design.
Work with global Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and SRD group to adopt and test new Long Term Planning processes and tools to improve Long Term Planning/strategic planning practices.
Support site projects and studies work, and support strategic components of continuous improvement and Strategic Resource Development (SRD) work as required.
Perform unit cost analysis with emphasis on fixed/variable costing, benchmarking, and optimization.
Build and maintain trust and credibility with key stakeholders and site functional teams.
Draw on experiences in open pit and/or underground mining to ensure the long term deliverables are considered and applying diversified engineering techniques.
Work with the mine-site geological, geotechnical, metallurgical, geostatistical, and S&ER teams to align, consult and inform on key work package deliverables.
Is This You??
A B.Sc. Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or equivalent is essential.
Considerable experience in mine planning, optimization, operations, and strategic planning in diversified mine sites, with preference for experience in conventional hard rock gold operations.
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to influence and impact in a dynamic, multitasking environment with competing priorities and a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Ability to build and maintain a strong communications network with planning and technical peers, Project/Study Directors, Mine Managers, and partner representatives.
Experience in supervision and leadership of Mine Engineering professional staff and related groups.
Experience in operations with knowledge of mine methods, mine design, production scheduling (strategic and tactical), equipment selection, reserve estimation, maintenance, and expert systems.
High level of competence in the use of mine planning software, including optimization techniques and cash flow analysis and extensive experience with mine design and scheduling packages.
Detailed knowledge of unit costing methods for resource and reserve analysis and experienced in financial analysis and financial models. Experience with Xeras cost estimating tool a plus.
Knowledge of exploration methods and resource estimation.
Strong problem solving and 3D visualization skills.
Relevant certificates of competency – certification as Professional Engineer, and/or Qualified-Competent Person status.
Working Conditions & Environment:
Role is based at the Cripple Creek & Victor Mine, located in Teller County, Colorado.
The Cripple Creek & Victor (CC&V) Mine site is located at elevations ranging from approximately 9,400 ft. to 10,600 ft. above sea level. Workers in this position are routinely exposed to conditions at various work sites throughout this range of elevations and must be physically capable of working at this altitude.
Weather conditions can and do change frequently and can become severe at times.
