The Substance Abuse Treatment Program [SATP] at Montefiore has been providing methadone treatment for opioid dependence for over 35 years. In addition to providing this empirically supported medication, SATP Units I and III offer cutting edge individual and group counseling to admitted patients. It also offers a “one stop shopping” model of care owing to its onsite primary care services and chronic illness care, as well as mental health, nutritional and vocational services
The Substance Abuse Specialist is responsible for providing individual substance abuse counseling, group counseling, psychosocial evaluations, and case management to patients enrolled in the Chemical Dependency Program.
Essential Functions:
• Screen patients to ensure appropriateness for care
• Complete biopsychosocial evaluation utilizing all available data, including interviews with patients and families and conferring with interdisciplinary associates.
• Develop, implement, and validate treatment plans/discharges in a timely manner in collaboration with patient, family and interdisciplinary team.
• Provide chemical dependency counseling to individuals, groups, couples and families.
• Document client progress as delineated in program policies and procedures and regulatory bodies.
• Participate in staff conferences and other meetings.
• Participate in relevant performance improvement activities, including trainings and conferences.
• Provide community outreach and education.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required
• CASAC or license in social work, mental health counseling or a related field is also required
• Minimum 1 year work experience as an addictions counselor (preferably with methadone clients) required
• Knowledge and ability to integrate historical and current patient issues
• Knowledge of substance abuse counseling and treatment
• Effectively work with adults and older adults with addiction
The hours for this position are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8:30am – 5:00 pm & Thursday 10:30am – 7:00 pm
This is a 100% grant funded position
