Job Description

Financial Accountant

Overview

Absolute Pets is a growing Pet Care Retailer and is looking for an individual to join their finance team. The successful candidate will need to ensure the accurate recording, reporting and analysis of Absolute Pets financial transactions enabling informed decision making and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Rental Management

  • Compiling the turnover rent schedule and submitting turnover information to landlords.
  • Accounting for refundable deposits and guarantees, including maintaining up-to-date records of Property Rental Guarantees and Landlord Information.
  • Compiling and / or reviewing and analysing schedules from rental invoices.
  • Performing reconciliations between the General Ledger (GL) and Property Lease Schedule.
  • Liaising with landlords to obtain usage breakdowns and analysing utilities.
  • Preparing the monthly lease smoothing provision adjustment workbook.
  • Processing property rental and utilities through the accounting system, including utilities provisions.
  • Allocating rental creditor and turnover rent payments, and calculating and distributing turnover rent.
  • Maintaining the rental creditors age analysis and reconciling against the control account.

Debtor Management

  • Invoicing and performing reconciliations for all debtors, including but not limited to promotional, marketing, training, franchises, Uber fees, and DC allowance invoicing.
  • Sending out statements and following up on amounts due.
  • Maintaining the debtors age analysis (under 30 days) and reconciling against the control account.
  • Allocating debtor payments accurately within the accounting system.
  • Compilation of promotional reports, including invalid voucher reporting, discount reporting, and promotional revenue reports for management accounts.
  • Compiling a schedule for rebates received.

Voucher Management

  • Submission of vouchers in accordance with company processes and deadlines.
  • Reconciliation of voucher records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Recovery of outstanding vouchers.


Reporting

  • Auto Order reports and Auto Order invoicing.
  • Monthly Rental and Utilities reporting.
  • Promotional Revenue reports for management accounts.
  • Invalid voucher and discount reporting.
  • Promotion Schedule and expected cost reporting in support of other departments.

Financial Support

  • Assisting with month-end processing, including invoice capturing and provisions.
  • Assisting with year-end financial audits.
  • Providing financial support to other departments, including property rental guarantees and landlord information.
  • Any additional ad-hoc requests and assistance as required by the finance department.


Qualifications, personal traits and experience


  • 2-4 years experience in a financial accounting role
  • Diploma or Degree in Financial Accounting or equivalent
  • Strong accounting knowledge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, with focus on Excel
  • Effective communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Has ability to adapt to changing requirements
