The Global Engagement and Communications Office is seeking a motivated and self-driven professional to join the PR and Media Team as a Manager. The role is responsible for enhancing the image and reputation of HKUST and showcasing the achievements of its faculty, students, and alumni through a wide range of media channels. It involves utilizing both textual and visual communication methods, as the position requires strong capabilities across multiple platforms in today’s fast‑evolving media landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute communications initiatives to generate positive publicity among local, Chinese Mainland, and international audiences;
- Organize and manage media relations activities, such as press conferences and interviews;
- Prepare press materials and craft clear, compelling and effective messages;
- Identify media angles from research findings and translate engaging stories from complex concepts;
- Manage the University’s brand reputation by identifying potential issues and opportunities, and playing a key role in issue and crisis management;
- Keep abreast of important policies and developments related to higher education and public affairs, and update supervisors accordingly;
- Cultivate and maintain strong, effective relationships with media in Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and overseas, and handle media enquiries;
- Lead the in-house multimedia officer and/or external vendors in producing diverse content tailored to different audiences and media platforms to expand the University's visibility and reach; and
- Undertake other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in journalism, public relations, or corporate communications.
- Proven track record in writing and editing.
- Excellent command of spoken and written English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin).
- Strong computer literacy and excellent project management skills.
- Strong media savvy and interpersonal skills.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, collaborative, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work outside normal office hours.
- Experience working with both international and Chinese Mainland media is preferred.
- A solid understanding of multimedia, together with experience in multimedia communications, will be advantageous.
(Duration: 2 years, renewable)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
