ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

Position Title:  High School Media Technician
Department/Building: Brainerd High School
Reports to: Building Principal
Assignment: 2026-2027 School Year
Hours: Full Time - 1 FTE, 8 hours per day
Salary Range: $ 20.50 - $ 22.40 per hour (Based on education and experience; wages outlined in the Educational Assistants Contract located on district website)

Contract Term: 174 Days, with the option for additional days upon mutual agreement with the District.
Union: Ed MN 
FLSA: Overtime Exempt

Position Summary:

The High School Media Specialist manages the media center and supports students and staff in accessing, evaluating, and using information effectively. This role promotes a welcoming, organized, and resource-rich learning environment.

Job Functions:

  • Support students in locating, evaluating, and using print and digital resources
  • Assist students with technology tools and media resources including Chromebook checkout
  • Maintain the library collection, including cataloging, circulation, and inventory using management software
  • Oversee the daily operation of the media center, ensuring a productive and welcoming environment
  • Troubleshoot basic technology issues related to media center equipment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of information literacy and research practices
  • Proficiency with educational technology and digital resources

 

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma
  • Experience: Preferred: Skyward Student experience
  • Ability to read, understand and follow directions in English.
  • Experience using the Google Suite.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.

     

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer.
  • Ability to move throughout the workspace, including walking, standing, bending, or reaching occasionally.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, other standard office equipment and other handheld devices particular to the profession.
  • Visual acuity to read printed materials, digital screens, and perform work requiring close vision.
  • Hearing and speech abilities sufficient to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in group settings.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of materials or equipment, typically not exceeding 20�25 pounds.
  • Ability to manage moderate levels of stress, deadlines, or competing demands inherent in a professional work environment.
  • Mobility to attend meetings or training sessions both on- and off-site and the ability to travel between multiple worksites as directed.

Work Environment:

  • School environment with frequent interaction with students and staff.
  • May involve travel between schools within the district.
  • Exposure to noise, behaviors, or conditions common in school environments.
