Job Description

Instructional Specialist - Secondary Math - 26-27

 

Primary Purpose:  

The Instructional Specialist serves as a district instructional leader who supports implementation of the Melissa ISD instructional framework by partnering with teachers and campus administrators to strengthen instructional practice, build capacity, and improve student achievement through coaching, curriculum alignment, assessment leadership, professional learning, and data-driven decision-making. 

Qualifications: 

Education/Certification/Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Experience in instructional leadership, coaching, or curriculum development preferred 

Special Knowledge/Skills:  

  • Expertise in curriculum standards, instructional frameworks, assessment design, and data-driven instruction.
  • Knowledge of coaching practices, adult learning theory, and professional learning design.
  • Ability to analyze student performance data to inform instructional decisions and improve outcomes.
  • Skilled in facilitating collaborative planning, PLCs, and professional learning.
  • Ability to provide actionable feedback while building trust and maintaining confidentiality. Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in instructional technology and district data systems. 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:  

  • Lead instructional coaching cycles, including observation, modeling, feedback, and reflection to improve teaching practice.
  • Conduct walkthroughs to identify trends and support implementation of the district instructional framework. 1/2 Melissa ISD
  • Support curriculum alignment through development and implementation of Year-at-a-Glance documents, planning guides, and instructional resources.
  • Collaborate in the creation and analysis of common assessments to ensure standards alignment and rigor.
  • Facilitate data conversations that drive instructional adjustments and improve student outcomes.
  • Design and deliver professional learning aligned to district priorities and campus needs.
  • Support PLCs and collaborative planning to strengthen vertical and horizontal alignment.
  • Partner with campus administrators and district leaders to implement instructional initiatives with fidelity.
  • Maintain documentation of coaching, curriculum, and assessment work in district systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Teaching and Learning goals.
  • Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings is required.

Pay/Work Calendar: 

Salary based on district pay scale and years of experience. 

Additional stipend as approved by district guidelines. 

District-paid insurance contribution and benefits according to the district compensation plan. 

Work calendar: 207 days
