Role description:

Arcadis is actively hiring a Field Technician to join our growing Resilience Environment Team in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico!

This position is responsible for collecting and analyzing environmental data, conducting site assessments, performing operation and maintenance tasks, and implementing resilience and sustainability measures. The technician ensures compliance with regulatory requirements while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to enhance the resilience of both natural and built environments

Role accountabilities:

The Resilience Environment Field Technician supports the successful delivery of environmental and resilience projects by conducting hands-on fieldwork in various environments, following established soil and groundwater sampling procedures, documenting findings, and utilizing relevant technology. The technician ensures compliance with all regulations while collecting and analyzing data, implementing mitigation measures, and contributing to project documentation while maintaining high standards of safety and quality, following Arcadis Health and Safety procedures.

The role involves collecting and monitoring environmental data using field equipment, supporting the operation and maintenance of groundwater treatment and soil vapor extraction systems, and conducting Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments. The position includes performing site assessments, contributing to risk and vulnerability evaluations, and preparing clear field reports and technical documentation. The successful candidate will help identify site hazards, support the implementation of environmental protection measures, and engage professionally with clients, regulators, and stakeholders. Strong data management skills are required, including documentation through photos, videos, and field testing, using tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and mobile applications. This role includes up to 75% travel for site visits, safety audits, and project activities.

Required Qualifications:

3 years of experience working in the field doing utility related work.

Key Skills and Attributes:

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude, including the ability to maintain and repair pumps and field equipment used in soil and groundwater remediation. They have hands-on experience operating environmental field instruments, such as water and air monitoring equipment, sampling pumps, and soil vapor devices. The role requires solid digital skills, including proficiency with computers, mobile devices, cameras, and Microsoft Office. Candidates should be proactive problem-solvers with strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to interact effectively with internal teams, clients, and communities. A willingness to work outdoors in diverse and sometimes demanding environments is essential, along with flexibility to travel and adapt to changing field schedules. A strong work ethic, commitment to quality, eagerness to learn, and full bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English) are key to success.

Preferred Qualifications:

The candidate should have at least 6 years of relevant experience in utility field work, including conducting inspections of water and wastewater infrastructure, soil and groundwater remediation systems, and documenting field conditions. A valid driver’s license is required. Relevant safety or technical certifications—such as HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR, HAZMAT, or GIS/GPS—are considered an asset. Experience installing monitoring wells using techniques such as hollow stem augers and direct push is highly valued, and basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems is a plus.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $25,000 - $30,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
