Job Title: 12-Month Special Education Coordinator � Therapeutic Services

Pay Schedule: APSASCCO � Coordinator Tier 4

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Director of Special Education

 

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing therapeutic behavior services and mental health counselling for students with significant emotional and behavioral challenges. Responsible for providing staff consultation, collecting and analyzing data, and providing staff training to ensure services that meet professional standards, and the subsequent submission of required Medical Assistance documentation.

 

GRANT FUNDED POSITION

This is a grant funded position.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborate with school administrators and Autism Behavior Consultants to provide regular clinical supervision and case consultation in therapeutic behavior services for school teams in alignment with professional best practices. 

  • Audit clinical documentation, treatment notes, and data collection for accuracy, quality, and compliance.

  • Coordinate with the Medical Assistance Practitioner to ensure correct and prompt completion and submission of required documentation for Counseling Services and Therapeutic Behaviors Services.

  • Oversee the programming for behavioral health services for students including individual and group counseling, crisis response, case management, and behavioral supports that focus on student strengths ages 3-21.

  • Provide case consultation with school staff regarding emergent behavioral health issues.

  • Ensure regular clinical supervision for the Mental Health Therapists in compliance with the Maryland Board of Examiners and professional best practices.

  • Collaborate with central office staff and school leadership to provide comprehensive behavioral health services and professional learning opportunities for staff throughout the school system. 

  • Hire and evaluate staff in collaboration with central office staff and school administrators.

  • Implements administrative procedures consistent with federal and state law, local school board policy and other regulations that impact delivery of services

  • Completes other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution

  • At least 3 years of outstanding counseling or related experience in one or more of the following areas: Social Work, Counseling,or Clinical Psychology

  • Holds a valid professional license from the Maryland Board of Examiners for Social Work (LCSW-C), Professional Counselors and Therapists (LCPC), or Psychology (LP) including licensure to provide clinical supervision to staff

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker - Certified (LCSW-C) preferred

  • Requires a strong knowledge of mental health disorders and treatment, behavior theories, child development, and crisis intervention techniques.

  • Outstanding references related to job requirements

  • Preferred - hold a current Advanced Professional Certificate/License from the Maryland State Department of Education with the Administrator I endorsement or the new Supervisor of Instruction, Assistant Principal, Principal endorsement.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of general office practices, procedures, and protocol.

  • Ability to demonstrate outstanding human relations and interpersonal communication skills in communicating with CCPS employees, other organizations, and the general public.

  • Ability to demonstrate competency in business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and the ability to compute salaries and other similar mathematics.

  • Ability to prepare and accurately maintain complex reports, files, and records.

  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

  • Ability to work with persons from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.

  • Ability to operate computers for data entry, word processing and/or accounting purposes.

  • Ability to work independently, work a flexible schedule and travel throughout Carroll County using personal vehicle.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Light Work: Exerting moderate but not constant physical effort to perform light work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, walking and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds), visual perception and discrimination, the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, perceive and discriminate color, perceive odors, and require oral communications.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Employees in this position work in an environment where the employee must deal with crisis situations that require major decisions involving people, resources, and property.
