Theater Director

Hamilton High School

Job Goal: The Theater Director will lead the extra-curricular theater program at Hamilton High School under the leadership of the Supervisor of Fine Arts 

 

Reports to: Supervisor of Fine Arts 

 

Essential Functions

The theater director will: 

 

  1. Serve as a role model for students 
  2. Encourage and inspire all students to grow, develop and be successful 
  3. Lay the foundation for life-long skills of commitment, resilience, and responsibility 
  4. Establish procedures that address all safety concerns - workshop with scene shop manager
  5. Train team members in the areas of safety and care for each other - workshop with scene shop manager
  6. Hold monthly meetings: one with officers and one with drama club members
  7. Explicitly teach and ensure professional standards for student performances - student theater/not community
  8. Embrace and teach the philosophy of working together and contributing to a purpose larger than oneself - focus on high school students
  9. Serve as the Artistic Director
  10. Select plays for student performance.  Fall play due end of May/Musical due end of September
  11. Lead all rehearsals (multiple times per week during production)
  12. Coach actors 
  13. Produce shows (at least two) 
  14. Create set design - due 5 days after show approved/turn in to scene shop manager to place order
  15. Oversee the budget - work with HPAA 
  16. Set ticket prices -work with HPAA 
  17. Select performance dates and times with Fine Arts director
  18. Develop a marketing and advertising strategy for the production
  19. Assume responsibility for make-up design 
  20. Lead costume crew - costume and prop list due 5 days after auditions.
  21. Assume responsibility for light design 
  22. Secure and coordinate with sound engineer 
  23. Recruit students for productions 
  24. Communicate with students and parents - google classroom and Final Forms

 

 Qualifications Profile 

  1. Background in the Performing Arts 
  2. High-quality oral and written communication skills 
  3. Strong organizational and planning skills 
  4. Open to new ideas and the ability to adapt to change 
  5. Awareness of, and appreciation for, individual uniqueness and diversity 
  6. Awareness of safety concerns and risk management 
  7. Pupil Activity Permit: requirements established by the HCSD Board of Education 

 

Conduct: Each staff member shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.

 

Each staff member shall serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings. Each staff member has a moral responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values

 

Terms of Employment: Per the Hamilton City Schools Board of Education/Hamilton Classroom Teachers Association Negotiated Agreement
