7 Hours/Day, 10-Month Work Year

Role Overview
This position provides direct interpreting services for students, staff, and parents who may be a part of, or aligned closely with, the dear/hard of hearing community.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma/GED.
Experience and/or formal training in working with hearing impaired persons.
Certification in American Sign Language (ASL) from ASL accredited program.
Ability to interpret in forms of Signed/Manually Coded English and American Sign Language.
Ability to work with deaf/hard of hearing students, adults, and instructional staff.
Good expressive and receptive interpreting skills; good human relations and communication skills.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized American Sign Language Interpreter training program.
Successful completion of the NAD-RID National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or the Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) assessment.
Completion of Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) scoring 3.5.
Registry of interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification.
Bachelor's Degree in an educational field.
Role Responsibilities
Be proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) communication, able to articulate conversations in consecutive or concurrent mode, based on the needs of the individual or situation.
Renders and provides accurate concepts and meaning with no additions or omissions in alignment with established ASL protocols.
Use appropriate pace, language, vocabulary, and terminology as a part of best practices.
Adhere to common industry practices and procedures for education, including strict adherence to confidentiality.
Use Reverse Interpreting to enhance communication between members of the deaf/hard of hearing community and hearing community to include peers, staff, parents, and or allies.
Provide interpreting services for deaf/hard of hearing students, staff, and adults.
Work cooperatively with instructional staff as a facilitator of communication for deaf/hard of hearing individuals.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment using different learning platforms and modalities.
Accurately provide interpreting services for different content areas, academic levels, and rigor.
Adherence to WCPS policies and regulations on professionalism for all staff.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.

Ability to move, raise, lower, and carry objects up to 20 lbs. on an irregular basis.
Must be able to bend, crouch, stoop, reach, and climb.
Will be subjected to loud noises, interactions, and traffic flow associated within a highly populated office environment.
