JOB DESCRIPTION
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid West Virginia Professional Administrative Certificate
2. Minimum three (3) years of educational experience.
3. Ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with others

RELATIONSHIP TO OTHERS:
1. Works under the direct supervision of the principal.
2. Works cooperatively with other staff of the school to ensure an on-going effective educational program.
3. To supervise and evaluate personnel of the school at the direction and assignment of the principal.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To assist the principal in such duties that prevent him/her from fulfilling his/her chief responsibility of promoting the educational well-being of each student in the school.
2. To assist in the educational development of each student.
FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
1. Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school.
2. Serves as principal in the absence of the regular principal.
3. Proposes schedules of classes and extracurricular activities.
4. Supervises the preparation of student schedules.
5. Works with department heads and faculty in compiling the annual budget requests.
6. Requisitions supplies, textbooks, and equipment, conducting inventories, maintaining records, and checking on receipts for such material.
7. Cooperates in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
8. Assumes responsibility for coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
9. Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with the attendance supervisor for investigative follow-up actions.
10. Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body, and deals with special cases as necessary.
11. Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
12. Administers the student insurance program.
13. Performs such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct.
14. Assist the principal in developing curriculum and planning courses of study.
15. Assist the principal in arranging the master teaching schedule and any special assignments that may be needed.
16. Assist the principal in evaluating and counseling staff members regarding their individual and group performance. (in accordance with State Board Policy 5310)
17. Attend and help supervise special events held to recognize student achievement and attend school sponsored activities, functions and athletic events as directed by the principal.
18. Work with department heads and school staff as directed by the principal.
19. Participate in in-service training as directed.
20. Perform such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may from time to time assign.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Refer to LC Salary Schedule #17 Level 1 for principal and assistants 215 Days Salary based on experience and education level per county BOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
